Arab Society of Faculties of Business, Economic and Political Sciences

Constituent Conference

 

Under the patronage and presence of Minister of Culture and Higher Education Mr. Fawzi Hbeich, a conference was held at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik for BEPS deans on May 13th and 15th, 1998. The conference addressed the following subject: “Arab world administration and the challenges of the upcoming century”.

 

The Secretary-General of the association of Arab Universities, Dr. Marwan Kamal, participated in the conference as well as more than 120 researchers, deans and professors among whom 35 deans and directors of the faculties and institutes of business administration and commercial sciences, coming from Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, Yemen, Tunisia, Bahrain, Sudan and Iraq.

 

The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Reverend Father Dr. Louis Al Farekh, delivered the opening speech that was followed by the speech of the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities Dr. Marwan Kamal. For their part, the President of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Reverend Father Antoine Khalifeh and the Minister of Culture and Higher Education Mr. Fawzi Hbeich, had their own speeches to deliver as well.

 

The speakers conducted a two-day discussion that mainly focused on a series of specialized papers in administrative sciences, information, education and ethics in work and globalization. Moreover, the speakers held a meeting and launched an open dialogue with His Excellency Prime Minister Mr. Rafic Hariri, centered on activating and developing the Arab world administration.

 

 

Resolutions

 

The Association of Arab Universities strives to ensure cooperation, coordination and expertise exchange among Arab faculties. It endeavors as well to activate the administration, guide the universities, and meet the challenges of the next century and their repercussions on the region.

 

To that end, the conference’s participants came to the resolutions below:

 

  • To establish a society for Arab universities administrative sciences faculties and institutes in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik. The following members were selected by the executive committee:

Dr. Khaled Al Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at University of Aleppo, Syria.

Dr. Mohammad Al Traiki, Director of High School of Commerce at University of Sfax, Tunisia.

Dr. Youssef Mohammad Oubaidan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration at Qatar University, Qatar.

 

 
6.

Dr. Ahmad Saleh Al Mounsir, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration at University of Aden, Yemen.

 

 

  • To create a scientific and periodic journal specialized in administrative sciences, entitled “Arab Economic and Business Journal”.

Recommendations

 

The conference’s participants came up with the following recommendations:

 

  • Calling upon the faculties and institutes of administrative sciences in Arab universities, members of the Association of Arab Universities, to adhere to the society.
  • Promoting cooperation among the society’s members at the level of professors’, experts’, students’ and researches’ exchange.
  • Encouraging national public or private institutions in all member States to communicate with each other and beneficiate from the expertise provided by the faculties in administrative sciences field.
